2027: APC Crisis Deepens as Party Chieftain Quits Party, Withdraws Support for Tinubu

 

The crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has deepened ahead of the 2027 general elections as one of the party’s chieftains, Captain Mohammed Bala Jibrin, has resigned from the party and withdrawn his support for Bola Tinubu’s presidential bid.

Bala Jibrin, a retired pilot and aeronautical engineer, announced his resignation on Monday, saying he would neither support Tinubu as the APC’s presidential candidate nor Mohammad Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, as the party’s governorship candidate in Bauchi State.

He said his decision was largely influenced by what he described as “brazen injustice” and the alleged imposition of candidates for elective positions without due regard for the views of party members, supporters and constituents.

In a resignation letter dated August 31, 2026, and addressed to the APC chairman of Nassarawa/Bakin Kasuwan Ward in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Bala Jibrin said his resignation and withdrawal of support would take immediate effect.

“I came to this conclusion due mainly to the brazen injustice and imposition of candidates for elective offices with no regard to party members in Bauchi State. The views of our supporters and constituents are apparently of no consequence,” he stated.

Bala Jibrin said he reached the decision after consultations with his supporters, friends and associates, who he said endorsed his decision to leave the APC.

“After an interaction with my supporters, friends, and associates, my decision for exiting the APC was endorsed; that is, it is the best option in the circumstances,” he said.

The APC chieftain described his resignation as “the most honourable move,” arguing that remaining in a party where members were treated with what he described as contempt would not serve his interests or those of his supporters.

Bala Jibrin had previously aspired to secure the APC governorship ticket in Bauchi State but stepped down from the contest during the party’s 2026 governorship primary. He had also been a vocal critic of the decision to field former Bauchi State governor, Mohammad Abdullahi Abubakar, as the party’s candidate for the 2027 election.

Before the primary, Bala Jibrin had opposed Abubakar’s candidacy, arguing that he was not suitable to represent the party, and later alleged that his emergence was the result of what he described as underhanded manoeuvring and imposition.
