Members of the House of Representatives at plenary on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 called for a full scale probe into the circumstances and those involved in the recall, promotion and reposting of Alhaji. Adulrasheed Maina, the one-time Head of Pension Taskforce Committee involved in N2Billion Pension scam between 2013 and 2014.
Sequel to a motion which came under matters of public importance moved by Hon. Jagaba Adams Jagaba, calling on the chamber to institute the scrutiny of what has been described as system failure and lopsided fight against corruption by the Executive arm of government.
He asserted that the chains of corruption cases associated with senior members of the executive arm gives the notion that the anti-graft war is a mere media noise. This is prompted by the latest development within the executive circle where it was reported that Mr. Maina who was declared wanted both by the EFCC and Police following allegations of fraud. The situation generated intense public outcry, warranting the then 7th Senate to launch an investigation into the matter.
Maina was consequently sacked and declared wanted by the EFCC and was later reported that he absconded to United Arab Emirate and nothing has been heard of him until recent events revealed that he has been recalled by the Federal Civil Service and reposted to the Ministry of Interior where he is currently serving as Director of Personnel.
Hon. Jagaba questioned how a wanted fugitive was recalled and reposted with promotion by a government that claims to be championing the fight against corruption?
Other lawmakers joined their voices to decry the recurring and poor management of scandals by the Presidency, adding that this has caused severe embarrassment to the nation. They insist that it is high time we began to build strong institutions to check systemic failure. Moreover, people must be held accountable for their actions against the law and collective well-being of Nigerians.
