Former Vice President Alex Ekwueme has died in London clinic where he was flown for treatment. A statement from his family confirmed the story. The statement reads,
“Ekwueme family regrets to announce the peaceful passing away of their patriarch, the former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON.
“The sad event occurred at the London Clinic at 10:00 pm on Sunday 19th November 2017.”
We will surely miss his excellence and intelligence in our political landscape for years to come. He was a man with many records for Nigeria.
He convened the group that metamorphosed into PDP to day as a strong opposition to Sani Abacha. He also brought the idea of Geo-political zones Nigeria which has come to state in our political delineation.
He died as one of the only men that lived above board in Nigeria without any trace of corruption to his name.
