The Senate passed a
motion on waste at Nigerian customs today sponsored by Senator Mohammed Hassan.
Presenting the motion, Senator Hassan said that Nigerian Customs has many warehouses with
loads of perishable goods of high economic value which includes: Food items,
goods seized from commercial traders. Most of these warehouses he said, are
filled up with these seized perishable goods that are rotting away at great
cost to the economy.
He observed that its is
in the interest of the our economy to contain these wastes, hence th need for
customs to decongest its warehouse and turn these wastes to useful gain to our
economy.
The Senate resolved to;
i.
To
Set an Ad-Hoc Committee to investigate the veracity of these claims and
advise the Senate accordingly.
