FINALLY, SENATE BULGES, CONFIRMS EXECUTIVE NOMINEES FOR CBN MPC BOARD

The Senate today bulged from there earlier stance by going ahead to confirm the nominees from the Executive to complete the membership of the very important Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of CBN.

The nominees confirmed are:
i. Prof. Adeola Festus Adenikinju
ii. Dr. Aliyu Rafindadi Sanusi
iii. Dr Robert Chikwendu Asogwa

While the nominee Dr Asheikh A. Maidugu was rejected and dropped.
Also, the Senate confirmed two deputy Governors of CBN to be:
i. Mrs Aisha Ahmad
ii. Mr Edward Lametek Adamu

This action was necessary as there were concerns that the MPC had not been able to form a quorum to meet and deliberate on the crucial quarterly Monetary Policy rates for the economy.

This caused senate to bend its position on conformation of nominees from the executive. Finally, the issue has been resolved as the committee can go ahead now and meet.
