OBJECTIVES OF MOTION ON URGENT NEED TO REPAIR AND REHABILITATE INTER-STATE ROADS IN NIGERIA AS CO-SPONSORED BY SENATOR STELLA ODUAH

The motion was designed to address the incessant challenges faced on our roads across the nation, especially inter-state roads which are under the purview of the Federal Govt.

Statistically, it was reported that more than 95% of the movement of people, goods and services are by road. This makes it imperative for us to steadily maintain our roads for easy movement of goods and services.

The poor maintenance of our roads has resulted in many loss of lives tragically on these roads.

The emphasis was on South East Federal Roads which are worst than other Federal Roads across Nigeria due to insincerity of FG to rehabilitate these roads year in year out.

The motion had  Ida-Odolu-Nsukka-Adani-Otuocha-Onitsha road which traverses the three state of Kogi, Enugu and Anambra but in total disrepair presently and requires urgent action as test case to buttress the deplorable situation of many Federal Roads especially in South East.

Objectives:

a.       The objectives of the motion was to urgently address the deplorable situation of many interstate roads especially the ones in the East.

b.      To remind the FG Govt of her core responsibility in building and maintaining access roads that link and connect states to strengthen  our national integration

c.       To call on FG to monitor the contractors who are handling most of these roads that have been awarded but abandoned by contractors after collecting mobilization fee.

d.      To remind the FG of the need to include Idah-Odolu-Nsukka-Onitsha federal road in 2018 Federal Budget

e.       To bring the attention of The Senate to the deplorable situation with Federal Roads in South East for their quick response to salvage the situation.
