SENATOR STELLA ODUAH'S MOTION ON RURAL ELECTRIFICATION DISSECTED

Our indefatigable Senator Stella Oduah sponsored a Motion on:

The Need for the Federal Government of Nigeria to implement rural electrification using alternative energy sources

The motion is geared towards encouraging FG to seek rural electrification program by exploiting other alternative energy sources like wind, coal, solar etc for a sustainable power supply to all the rural areas in Nigeria. Interestingly, many of these rural areas have these alternative sources that are yelling for exploitation by government.

 The following objectives are tenable through this motion:

1.      Diversification of our rural electrification sources thereby making it easy for every region or rural community to embrace the option that suits there environment most. E.g rural communities with high wind could embrace wind turbine as the source of their own energy.

2.      Improved generation of power to meet the rising needs of our communities due to the availability of alternative energy sources.

3.      See to total electrification of all rural communities in Nigeria without power with “NO” area left behind policy of total electrification

4.      Subsidization of alternative energy sources to meet our rising energy challenge

5.      To contribute to total industrialization of our rural areas that has been heavily deprived due to power challenge

6.      To help improve the economy of our rural communities vis a vis creation of more job opportunities especially for the small and medium enterprises that thrive in these localities

7.      Reduction of crime and youth restiveness orchestrated inadequate power supply to the communities

8.      To enhance productivity of the cottage industries in these communities for greater revenue that will sustain them

9.      To fight poverty in these rural communities through improved opportunities that come with electrification  

10.  Improvement of living standards on these rural communities
