Authorities in Enugu State are searching for a prominent native doctor, Chief Levi Onyeka Obu, following a disturbing case of kidnapping and suspected ritual killings uncovered in Ezeagu Local Government Area.
Police on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of three suspects linked to the abduction of a 13-year-old girl and the discovery of two decomposing bodies hidden in a pit sealed with concrete.
The Enugu State Police Command said the suspects — Uche Kingsley Agumba (33), Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi (36), and Ejike Odinwankpa (38) — are in custody, while Obu, also known by the aliases “Ezeani” and “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show,” remains at large.
The police described him as a well-known traditionalist in Umuojor village, Isiagu community, where the crime reportedly took place.
Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe explained that the arrests followed the abduction of the teenage girl on Monday, May 27, 2025, while she was on her way to the farm with her father.
According to reports, the girl was taken by men who staged a motorcycle breakdown and asked her father for assistance.
After convincing him to lend them his knife and help push the motorcycle, they seized the girl and sped away.
A community-led search was launched immediately after the father raised an alarm.
The girl was eventually found in the compound of the fugitive native doctor.
A search of the premises revealed a sealed pit within an uncompleted building, described as a shrine. Inside, investigators found the decomposing bodies of a man and a woman.
“Two decomposing bodies, one male and one female, were discovered buried in a concrete-sealed pit within an uncompleted building, owned and used as a shrine, and heinous criminal activities by the fleeing prime suspect,” Ndukwe said.
“Investigations reveal that the deceased victims were recently murdered and buried in the pit by the suspects for ritual purposes, and the rescued child was moments away from suffering the same fate before the timely intervention.”
In response, the Enugu State Government has demolished the buildings associated with the fugitive, citing their use for criminal activities.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, visited the scene and praised the combined efforts of police personnel, local security outfits, and community members who helped foil the abduction.
Giwa has instructed the Command’s tactical, investigative, and intelligence units to expand their efforts in tracking down Obu and any additional accomplices.
