NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TODAY


In today’s plenary, the Senate passed two Bills for First reading. The Bills are:
1.      CLIMATE CHANGE BILL
2.      NATIONAL WAR COLLEGE Act CAP N82 LFN 2004 (Amendment) Bill, 2017
The Senate also considered the following reports form its committees:
1.      CONFERENCE COMMITTEE REPORT ON- BANKRUPTCY AND INSOLVENCY ACT CAP B2 LFN 2011(Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2017
2.      Conference Committee Report on- FEDERAL COMPETITION AND CONSUMER PROETCION BILL, 2017
3.      Report of the Committee on INEC- SCREENING OF NOMINEES FOR CONFIRMATION AS RESIDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSIONERS
4.      Report of the Senate Committee on- 2017 BUDGET OF CORPORATIONS AND AGENCIES OF GOVERNMENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA
Finally, the senate after considering reports from their various committees, passed the following Bills after 3rd Reading:
1.      FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE , KABBA (Establishment, etc) BILL, 2017
2.      FEDERAL COLLEGES OF EDUCATION ACT (Amendment) BILL, 2017
The Senate also passed a motion on:
INCREASING RATE OF INSECURITY IN ADAMAWA COMMUNITIES AND THE ATTACK IN MUBI THAT KILLED MANY PEOPLE
Senate resolved to:
i.                    One Minute Silence for the dead in Mubi attack
ii.                  Call on NEMA to provide relief materials to affected victims
iii.                Call on security agents to beef up security in crisis areas of Adamawa
Finally, the Senate passed a short Motion on Investigating Maina with the chairman of the investigating committee asking for more time to finish up the work and also seeking expansion of the terms of reference to:
i.                    Mandate the Adhoc Committee to further investigate the properties recovered form pension fund looters.

This particular request was granted by the Senate.
