SENATOR AKPABIO’S BILL ON LEGAL PRACTICTIONERS PASSES SECOND READING



The Senate today passed the Bill presented by the uncommon Senator, Senator Godswill Akpabio for Second Reading. The Bill was,
“AN ACT TO AMEND THE LEGAL PRACTICTIONERS ACT CAP C 11 LFN 2004”

In his lead debate, the distinguished Senator said NBA needs to take its place as a strong voice for change in a globalised world.

He said the Act is one step to boost the capacity of the Bar to meet its commitment to the nation. He went on to say the bill has in built mechanism against malpractice and malfeasance in the profession.

He narrated that there are many reported cases of fake lawyers used by the public innocently, hence the bill will regulate the practice and ensure that only lawyers authorized to practice are the ones to render services to the public.

He concluded by saying that there is no doubt that the Bill is essential to bring the practice of law in line with global practice.

In his closing remarks, Deputy Senate President Ekweremmadu who was presiding commended Senator Akpabio for the bill and referred it to committee on Judiciary, Human right and Legal matters to report back to Senate in two weeks.
