SENATE GIVES NNPC 7 DAYS ULTIMATUM TO STOP FUEL QUEUES NATIONWIDE

The Nigerian Senate Committee in-charge of NNPC summoned the agency over the persistent scarcity of fuel that has left many Nigerians either not driving anymore or literally sleeping at fuel stations just to procure PMS for their cars and their generators in the light of poor power supply.

The Chairman of the committee Senator Marafa stated this today on the floor of the Senate while delivering the report of the committee on the situation to the upper chambers.

He said NNP claimed that Smuggling, lack of complying to pump official price by marketers as the major challenges they are facing presently.

He said the agency claimed that smugglers daily smuggle the product out of the country to our neigbouring borders instead of supplying to our local stations to reduce the scarcity.

In the light of this, the Senate then decided to give the agency the following conditions:
1. Direct the NNPC to ensure adequate supply of PMS and disappearance of queues within 7 days.
2. Direct Customs, Police, Army etc and  other security agents to ensure effective border control to forestall further smuggling of the product outside our country.
3. Direct DPR to double efforts to enforce Price control at petrol stations nationwide.
