Distinguished Senator
David Mark and former Senate President made his submissions on Tuesday on the
floor of the Senate to the ongoing debate at Senate over the Benue Crisis.
Contributing, Senator
Mark commended the Senate president for cutting short the holiday of Senators
by recalling them over the crisis in Benue State.
He said he was moved by
the passion at which the Senators spoke about the crisis. He however stated
that most of what is floated are long term solutions, but the situation at hand
requires short term measures too to halt the incessant killings going on Benue.
There should be immediate solutions to make sure no more life is lost he said.
He said one life is as
bad as 50 lives lost. He berated a situation which seems as if there is no
intelligence transmission between the Govt organs and the villages.
He said the Govt is not
proactive. A situation where we only
react after lives are lost are not commendable. He said, the archaic way we are
still doing things do not fit into this modern age we are in. He said how can
we justify that foreigners are on a killing spree in our country but Govt cant
do anything.
He berated the issue of
proliferations of arms in our country which he condemned and said it is tantamount
to lawlessness and many people might then resort to self defence to protect
their lives and property.
He called on the security
agents to arrest and prosecute the sponsor of this heinous crime that are known
if not, the Govt has failed.
He finally called on
the Govt to act on the immediate solutions now to safeguard lives and
properties.
