SENATOR UWAJUMOGU SPONSORS MOTION ON CHILD MOLESTATION



Senator Benjamin Uwajomugu representing Imo North sponsored a motion to stop the increasing Rate of Child Labour, Molestation and Abuse in Nigeria.

Speaking on the floor, he recounted many newspapers pages that reported disheartening cases of Child abuse perpetrated on innocent children in Nigeria.

According to him, 2014 survey by Nigerian Population Commission, shows that 6 out of every 10 children have experienced some form of violence and 50% of all Nigerian children have experienced physical violence and that between 2014 and now, the situation has not improved.

The Senate further resolved to :
i.                    Urge the Ministry of Women Affairs to take measures that would arrest this war against the right of children
ii.                  Call on the members of the Senate Committee on women Affairs and Justice to investigate the viral trend and report back to Senate in 2 weeks.
iii.                Urge FG, SG, LG to provide good quality and affordable education and job opportunities to all across the country.
